Talus Fracture

A talus fracture is a break in one of the bones that form the ankle joint, specifically the talus bone. It’s often caused by high-impact injuries like car
accidents or falls.

Symptoms: Symptoms include severe pain, swelling, bruising, limited mobility, and sometimes a visible deformity of the foot or ankle.

Diagnosis:

  • Physical Examination:  A doctor will assess the injury through a physical examination.
  • Imaging Studies: X-rays or CT scans are used to confirm the fracture, assess its severity, and determine the specific type of fracture.

Treatment:

  • Non-Surgical: In some cases, if the bone fragments are not displaced, the fracture may be treated with immobilization in a cast or brace, with the foot kept off weight for several weeks.
  • Surgical: Most talus fractures require surgical intervention to restore the bone’s alignment and stability.
